It's always exciting when I receive a postcard in the mail. I want to share that joy by sending a postcard every week; sometimes to family and friends, and other times to strangers via Postcrossing.com.

From Russia with Love
I received this card via Postcrossing. The sender tells me this is a view on the Volga River and that it is a typical landscape view of the midlands of Russia.
She lives in Cheboksary which is the capital of the Chuvash Republic on the Volga River and is 750 km from Moscow. The city was founded in 1469, Additional information about this area can be found in this wiki article.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial
My sister has been travelling again and sent this postcard during her summer outing. Her photos of this mountain and surrounding area are stunning.

Turtle Mountain, Alberta
from the back of the card: Turtle Mountain Alberta, Canada. The site of the world-famous Frank Slide, of April 29, 1903. About 70 people lost their lives when close to 82 million metric tonnes of rock came crashing down on the sleeping town of Frank in less than 2 minutes.
I learned about this horrific event many years ago in school. There was only one survivor, a young toddler. As his identity was not known, he was named Frank Slide, or at least that is what I have heard.
Visit the website of the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre for further details.
The stamp features Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the occasion of her birthday.

Postcard Friendship Friday - Moving Day Approaches
It's almost time to be moving daughter for her first year away from home for university. A busy and exciting time. Son has been away for three years now and has broken us into what is expected of parents while their kids are off fulfilling their destiny (whatever that might turn out to be). It will be an interesting time for all of us.
Daughter is not moving to Wisconsin as shown in the postcard. She'll be less than an hour away. I received this great card via Postcrossing. Mapping was one of my subjects of studying while I attended the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario. I love map cards.

Postcard Friendship Friday - Beautiful simplicity
"Colourful Giraffes" by Jeni Matheson 2013
Over the years, my sister has sent me a variety of postcards from IKEA and this is one of the lovliest. I am volunteering at a running race series this week and these giraffe remind me of the runners mulling around just before the start of the race. All that pent up energy just waiting to be unleased, but nothing really to do until the start.
I am volunteering at the Endurrun, which is a 8 day, 7 stage, 160 kilometre race series held in the areas of Conestogo and Waterloo, Ontario.

Postcard Friendship Friday - Sunflowers in Bloom
I don't know the common name for the bird, though the latin name is Cuculus canorus.
