Postcard Friendship Friday - Moving Day Approaches

It's almost time to be moving daughter for her first year away from home for university.  A busy and exciting time. Son has been away for three years now and has broken us into what is expected of parents while their kids are off fulfilling their destiny (whatever that might turn out to be).  It will be an interesting time for all of us.

Daughter is not moving to  Wisconsin as shown in the postcard. She'll be less than an hour away.  I received this great card via Postcrossing.  Mapping was one of my subjects of studying while I attended the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.  I love map cards.

Map of Los Angeles

I've flown into Los Angeles airport several times, and never ceases to amaze me that the city is so huge.  You fly over it for ages before arriving at the airport.  It must be at least thirty minutes if approaching from the east.  This may seem exaggerated, but when you consider that the airport is right on the coast, that's a lot of city and outlying towns that you fly over.

Other than the big smudge on the card from the postal machinery, this is a terrific example of a map post card.

What happens in Vegas, gets mailed home, that is, if it happens to be written on a postcard.

 

My sister, who is my too long silent partner in this blog, sent me this glittery postcard from Las Vegas.  She was there for her first time during the holidays in December.

Sent this one to daughter when I was in Las Vegas for the CES (Consumer Electronics Show).  This is the hotel that we stayed at.

Oh Please, take me away to Hawaii

 

Arrived a few days ago from one of the Hawaiian Islands. 

 It was the first card that a new Postcrosser sent. I few privileged.

It features the Waimea Canyon.

A must see on Kaua'i.  Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon in the Pacific. 

 It is over ten miles long, one mile wide and 3500 feet deep.

Las Vegas

I received this postcard in the mail on a non strike day. It is from my favourite math teacher (Mr. Sernasie) from high school. He loves gambling and said this is from his favourite place. If you look at the cars they are antiques so must the postcard be lol. What a nice surprise. We had such wonderful teachers at our school (Laura Secord Secondary School in St. Catharines, named after the women who warned the British the Americans were coming in the war of 1812. She saved the war for us that is, not the Americans reading this lol. She now has a very yummy chocolate shop named after her. Laura Secord)

Post Cards My Sister Sent

My sister Nancy, the other participant in this blog, has been sending me postcards since her university years.  I have kept most of them and am planning to share them here with you.  Since she loves to travel, they are from all sorts of places. 

Winter is giving a valiant effort at trying to convince me that I like it, and want it to stay winter and snowy forever.  These are my last hurrah to the white stuff.  I hope.

 

This was sent to my son.  I believe Nancy was in Colorado as part of a wedding party.  Always time to hit the slopes for a few runs.

This was mailed at the same time to my daughter.

Post Card Friendship Friday - Thoughts of the Pacific

As did many others, I awoke to the news of a devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan.  I have had the news on all morning

My heart goes out to all who have been affected.

My sister Nancy, the other contributor to this blog, sent me this post card from O'ahu when she visited there in 2002.  I believe this might have been on her way back home after working in Japan for a year.

Fabric Postcards - White does not always mean Snow

For several years, my mother has belonged to an online group that make and then swap fabric postcards.  Each month there is a theme and you can chose to join in the fun. You make four postcards: one for yourself, and three to mail to the other participants.

While my mother was visiting last week, I borrowed some of her cards and took photos of them.  She has dozens and dozens of these wonderful pieces of art.  Over the next few months I will be sharing some of them with you in a Sunday morning post.

The theme this week is 'White' in honour of all that snowy stuff that has been flying around outside.
