Postcard Friendship Friday - Moving Day Approaches

It's almost time to be moving daughter for her first year away from home for university.  A busy and exciting time. Son has been away for three years now and has broken us into what is expected of parents while their kids are off fulfilling their destiny (whatever that might turn out to be).  It will be an interesting time for all of us.

Daughter is not moving to  Wisconsin as shown in the postcard. She'll be less than an hour away.  I received this great card via Postcrossing.  Mapping was one of my subjects of studying while I attended the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario.  I love map cards.

Town Symbols of Friesland

The map may be small, but the town symbols/crests of eleven of the towns in Friesland are wonderful.  The sender tells me that Leewarden is the largest town and Sloten is the smallest.  Friesland is one of the north most provinces in the Netherlands.

Map of Los Angeles

I've flown into Los Angeles airport several times, and never ceases to amaze me that the city is so huge.  You fly over it for ages before arriving at the airport.  It must be at least thirty minutes if approaching from the east.  This may seem exaggerated, but when you consider that the airport is right on the coast, that's a lot of city and outlying towns that you fly over.

Other than the big smudge on the card from the postal machinery, this is a terrific example of a map post card.

The Streets of Leipzig

 

When I was at university, I studied environmental studies and geography.  One of my specialties was mapping.  At that point, digital maps were still in their infancy, almost all maps were still made manually.  Even though I don't work in that field, I still maintain a passion for nicely made maps.  This one from Leipzig is beautiful.  A good use of colour, clear lines, and the name placement is exceptionally well done.  I hate it when names are placed up side down.  A traveller could easily use this postcard for navigating in this area.

 

Every spring, Leipzig hosts a huge book fair.  That is something I would love to attend.
