Hot Men

Okey, well maybe he isn't a hot man, guess it will depend on how long he sits in the mailbox before my friend rescues him.

He is going across the pond to a friend who said to send him some beefcake.

Cauliflower for Brains

Zombies really aren't all that bright.  They are easily confused; must have something to do with being the re-animated dead.  Horrible things happened once they spied that field of cauliflower.  Sending this along to my godmother's husband.  He has a wicked sense of humor.

How does your Farmyard Fair

A friend of mine has a small farm.  And on her farm she has a pig.  Actually she has several pigs.  I don't imagine she really goes out in the farm yard dressed as such, but it brings a smile to my face to imagine it.  Card is from The Art of Pixar: 100 Collectible Postcards
She is not prolific in her blogging, though I have asked her for some pictures of the new piglets.

Prejudice about Penguins

Why are the ninjas fighting with the character from Pride, Prejudice and Zombies?  First I thought they were on the zombies' side, but know I am wondering if perhaps they are teaching the ladies how to fight better so they can defeat the zombies.  Can anyone help me out with a possible explanation.

I have sent this card to my sister in hopes that she has an interpretation.

Owls are Friendly

One of the ladies in my local quilt guild really likes owls.  I thought I would surprise her with this fellow.  He doesn't have far to go, and should have arrived there by now.

This card is from a Halloween Postcard Book from Darling & Company.

A Blast from the Past

My nephew is in the Canadian Reserves. I thought he might find this postcard amusing.

Aircraft Recognition is still in print, with a recent 2006 edition.  It was originally printed in 1941 and must have been handy in Britain.  Follow the link for further information about this book.

Vacation Time

My family and I are heading out on vacation.  I  have schedualled several posts for the next few weeks.  I am mailing the postcards before I leave, but I don't have any idea when they will be delivered.
We don't  look like this, it looks more like my cousin's family.  She has three younger children and does go to the cottage every summer.  I decided to send this along to her.

Sunflowers Make me Smile

I can't resist sending this giant sunflower card to my friend Patricia.
For years, her mother had a painting of sunflowers hanging in her kitchen.
By a tangled route, that picture is now hanging in my house. Thank-you, I still love it.

Postcards are such fun to receive and even more fun to send.  For more postcard fun, be sure to visit Beth at The Best Hearts are Crunchy for her Postcard FriendShip Friday post.

The Calgary Stampede 2012

The Calgary Stampede (http://www.calgarystampede.com/) celebrates it's 100 the anniversary this July. It is going to be quite the party. Each year the Stampede makes a beautiful cowboy or cowgirl stampede poster. The postcard is a sample of one from a couple of years back.
I look forward each year to seeing the newest design.
I sent this card to my parental unit in Ontario. They have always wanted to come out to Calgary for the event but have not made it yet.
I am looking forward to the 10 days of pretending to be a cowgirl. The city becomes decorated with hale bales and paintings of cowboy life on windows. Everyone I mean almost everyone dresses up in cowboy attire. We head out to bars/saloons for beers and barbeque's. There are pancake breakfasts everywhere. The main event is at the Stampede grounds where the Chuckwagon races and rodeo take place every night. It is a fun event.
If you haven't been you should put it on your list of things to do.

Jane Austen visits Japan

It's been far too long since I sent out a postcard.  I have selected the winner of a post card from the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Postcard Book.  This should arrive in Helen's mailbox in about two weeks.

Jane as a zombie.  It's an image that I'll have to muse on.  Her colour is much too pale for current fashions.

On my other blog, Books and Quilts, I have been writing about a different re-incarnation of Jane.  In tomorrow's  post she goes dress shopping and is getting ready to fly to Halifax for Quilt Canada.  You can read last week's post where she joins me for fabric shopping.

This postcard book is from Chronicle Books.

Easter Egg Time

This is the best of Easter Cards.  Such gorgeous eggs.  When I buy my eggs from a friend who keeps several flocks of fowl, this is sort of what my assortment looks like.  Okey, I admit, that she doesn't give me ostrich size eggs, though some of the duck eggs are large enough for two people.  I haven't had any of her goose eggs, though she admitted that one egg is large enough to make an omelet for four people.

Thanks to my sister for sending these wonderful eggs.   On the back of the card "Ok, I know they aren't chocolate, but these eggs could be used to make wonderful chocolate cakes + imagine the eggs benedict."

How well my sister knows me.

Card is from a photo by Tessa Traeger 1991, Distributed by Chapter and Verse.

A friend of mine wiped out on his bicycle recently and was banged up pretty bad.
I sent him this card with the hopes that it would give him a smile.

Oh Please, take me away to Hawaii

Arrived a few days ago from one of the Hawaiian Islands.
It was the first card that a new Postcrosser sent. I few privileged.

It features the Waimea Canyon.
A must see on Kaua'i.  Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon in the Pacific.
It is over ten miles long, one mile wide and 3500 feet deep.
(from the back of the card).

Northern Scandinavia

Received from a Postcrosser in Finland.  The card says that the the area shown is Northern Scandinavia, though the sender corrects to say that Finland is actually located in Fennoscandia.

The postage stamp is printed on the back of the card.  The image reminds me of the petroglyphs (rock carvings) that some of the Canadian First Nations do.

I am wondering if he has seen such a bird before.

Coffee anyone?

The Coffee Pot - Davidson, Saskatchewan  This is a 7.3 metre tall sculpture.  When I asked Postcrossing for a new address to send a postcard, I read that the recipient likes coffee.  Could think of a better card to send.  It's off to Poland.

Great Photos in History

Did I mention that my son is studying photography at college.  As part of the course, he has to prepare several presentations on successful photographers.  One person that he has learned about is Yousuf Karsh.

My son told me a story about the central image of Winston Churchill.  He related that the photo shoot had been going on for a lot longer than Mr. Churchill expected.  He lit a cigar and was smoking it.  Mr. Karsh walked over to him, took the cigar and threw it out.  That is why Mr. Churchill has such an expression on his face.  True or not, a good story.

Books and Postcards MIxed Box

Along with being a member of Postcrossing, I am also a long time member of Bookcrossing. A few members in Calgary offered to send a box of books to be shared by Bookcrossers in the Kitchener/Waterloo area.  They have arrived and what a terrific selection.  In return, we are sending them a box of books.  Along with the books, I have included the following postcards, with the request that they mail them out to book lovers that they know.

If you are a member of Bookcrossing and would like to receive one of these cool book cover postcards in the mail, leave me a comment and I'd be happy to send out a few, but in exchange you will have to agree to send out a postcard to someone else.

Happy Mailbox

I received these two postcards in the mail . The Gandhi one was not from India which I would have guessed but actually from Finland from a young lady from Postcrossing www.postcrossing.com .
the other postcard came from the Netherlands. I have loved Winnie the Pooh since I was a little girl and first saw this ginormous (might not have been as big as I thought being a little toddler things are not always as big as they appear lol) Winnie the Pooh in the Kids clothing section at our local Sears store. So I was quite happy to receive this from another Postcrossing member.

Town Image Postcard

My most recent request from Postcrossing was to send a card showing images from my town.  Well, my town is too tiny to have a post office or postcards of it's own, so I went to the next town.  It has a very lively tourist trade, thus it was easy to find a card to send to Belgium.

Year of the Dragon

This wonderful Year of the Dragon card is on it's way to a lucky Postcrossing member in Taiwan.
