Post Card Friendship Friday - Animals Down Under

It was way back in 1990 that my godfather sent me this post card from Australia.

Following is the information from the back of the card:

Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus)

Of all Australian herbivourous marsupials the Koala is probably the most highly specialised.  It is entirely a creature of the treetops.  About one kilogram of food is consumed each day, consisting of various types of gum leaves.  The Koala givess birth usually to a single young, which is carred on the female's back after the usual period of time in the pouch.

Photographed at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Brisbane, Australia.

  7. Australia's mammals have unique ways of carrying their young! Kangaroos have a special "pocket" in their tummies... and the adorable koalas get a piggyback! I wonder if mama koalas develop backaches, too :D
    Have a great weekend.
