Stuck on Canada Contest winners

I have been very remiss in closing this contest and drawing a winner.  I used Random.org to help me.
The winner of the Stuck on Canada card is Beth Niquette.
Since I was so slow, I chose a second winner of an as of yet unknown card, Violet Sky.

I'll be sending emails to both winners.
Thanks all for entering.  Stay tuned for a Nancy Drew postcard contest.

Stuck on Canada - contest

\
Just as we were all set to have some work done up on our roof, the skies opened and that white fluffy stuff started to fall.  It coated my house and yard.  Maybe tomorrow it will stay clear and the work can get done.

The wonderful card is from The Postcard Factory.  I know this has happened to me when I was young, very young, it really hurts to pull rip your tongue off that cold metal.

I was asked if we really do something that an adult knows is so wrong.  Well, as a kid, either you are dared to do it, or your curiosity gets the better of you and you stick out your tongue and the rest just hurts. Dumb yes, but it happens.

Be sure to leave a comment, as one lucky commenter will win this postcard and I'll write on it and mail it to you (unless you really want it in an envelope).  yippee, real mail.  Open to all.  Make sure I can contact you, if you are a no reply commenter, include your email.

Any Time is good for Tea Time

Beauty and the Beast if my sister's favourite movie.  Several years ago she bought me a little sculpture of Mrs. Potts and Chip, so it's appropriate that she sent me this postcard.

Maria, at Connections to the World, has posted a card from this movie that features Belle.

Finnish Wetland Plants

I have been a member of Postcrossing for a few years and have received several very unique cards.  This is my first custom one.  It's an image of a common wetland plant found in Finland.  It's creator referred to it as a cotton grass.

Beautiful British Columbia

It's been far too long since I paid enough attention to this blog.  I'm going to make a concerted effort at correcting that.  A small stash of cards has been collecting on my desk and I plan to share them with you in the next weeks as well as send out several more.  Hope you'll join with me and send out a few yourself.

My sister, the other creator of this blog, sent me this lovely card while she was visiting Vancouver last week.  Really makes me want to visit there.  This card is published by Ann's Island Photography in Victoria, BC.

And he asked for an aboriginal card

I signed up to send a card to a postcrosser today.  He had a huge list of preferred cards to select from.  I jumped at the 'aboriginal ' card.  I think this one will fit the bill.  Off it goes to Germany.

Angels in the Mail

These two postcards were made by my mother and were sent to the winner of one of my contests.  They went directly in the mail with a stamp attached to the back. If you are wondering how they fared, then visit with Roslyn at Ros the Quilter and take a close look.  They are mostly unmarked.  The second card has a band of orange code marks along the bottom, but I think that add character.

Both cards measure 4 x 6 inches.

A Paper Quilt for a Fibre Artist

Hard to chose what to send to a fibre artist who creates wonderful items every day.  Fortunately I had  few cards with quilt images.  Off it goes to the American West coast.

Birds of a Feather

I'm on a postcard roll.  A while back, my sister challenged me to send as many postcards as Postcrossing would allow me.  I am finally trying to meet that.  This card is off to Belarus to a lady who says her last name translates to 'crow'.  This is the closest I could come.  i hope she enjoys it.

For a Special Person

I was playing around at my sewing machine today with a fun piece of fabric.  A few shiny threads and lots of free motion stitching and I came up with this postcard.  Will be sending it off to one of my favourite people.

It is hard to tell, but there is a lot of pink and beige stitching that reminds me of contour lines.

To Russia with Love

A few days ago I sent this card off to a Postcrosser in Russia.
Measures 4 x 6 inches.
Cotton fabric in the Flying Geese motif.

I did ask the recipient if she would like a hand made card and fortunately she said yet.

I held a contest on my other blog a while back. One of the prizes was a fabric postcard made by me.  I can finally show you the picture as it has been received by the winner.  It measures 4 x 6 inches.  Yes, it really was mailed just as it is.  The winner told me that she likes bright, and I was able to find a few fabrics that met that requirement.

These are such fun to make as I work with what ever fabric is at hand.  I usually add some of the fun stitches from my sewing machine. I never know what it will look like, but I sure do enjoy the process.

A Quilting misjudgement leads to a Great Postcard

Recently my mom and I have been playing with the disappearing 4 patch quilt technique.  This post card is a result of that process.  She felt that the one part was cut too narrow and it didn't make for a nice quilt block.  Once she trimmed it up and fused it to some interfacing, it makes a wonderful postcard.  Lucky for me, I was the recipient.  The technique she tried is illustrated in this post from my quilting blog.

The colours are a bit off, it should be more yellow and purple.  Measures 4 x 6 inches.

This is the quilt top that I made using the same technique.  Details are shown in the post linked to above.

Heads up, Monsters in the mail

I haven't done very much in the way of sending out postcards over the past year and a half and I really miss it.  In February, I tried getting back in the groove, but it didn't last.  Here's to trying again.  I am also working on more of my fabric cards and when I get a few finished I'll be hosting a contest to win one.

This postcard is an image from Monsters Inc. from the Pixar Postcard Box and is all set to travel to a Postcrosser in China.  She specifically listed Pixar cards among her favourites.

From the Top of the World

We sent a number of post cards while we were in New Zealand in July.  Hubby decided to send one to our house.

from the back of the card:

Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga) is the northwesternmost tip o the North Island and one of New Zealand's most visited sites.  It is Maori belief that Cape Reinga is the point where spirits of the dead nter the afterlife.  Visit legendary Cape Reinga, and witness the coming together of two oceans... the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea.

A Mother's Love

While my mother was coping with dad's illness and his subsequent passing, she embroidered dozens of fabric postcards.  Quite a few were sent as thank-yous to the many people who helped my parents during the course of dad's illness.

As Christmas came around, she was still stitching.  This is the one that she hand delivered to me mid December. I think that it is absolutely gorgeous and will be keeping it out on display for quite a while yet.

Back with a Mission

It's been ages since my sister and I have been here and shared our postcard sending and receiving with you.  My dad was diagnosed with cancer which he didn't beat.  That occupied much of my time and something had to give.  I'm sure you'll understand.

That didn't mean that I didn't send out any postcards because I did.  I tried to find as many as I could with car and boat themes and I sent them off to dad.  Even though I visited him every week, I still put the cards in the post to surprise him.  Mom still has them tucked away.

My sister has challenged me to send out my maximum number of cards with Postcrossing, and I am finally ready to take her up on it.

this one will be winging it's way to Russia.
