Postcard Friendship Friday - Sending these ones Out

I recently concluded a contest on my other blog and felt kind of left out.  While I hosted the contest, the prizes were sent directly to the winners by Sourcebooks which was the sponsor.  Usually I include some extra little items along with the stated prize.  Since I couldn't do that this time, I decided I would send postcards to the two winners.

This one is winging it's way to Pennsylvania.
The quilt is titled Sweet April Rain by Marge Edie.

On it's way to Alabama.  This lovely orange quilt, my favourite colour of quilting fabric, is titled Marc's Piece and is by

William and Kate

I just received this lovely postcard of William and Kate. When I was growing up my family and the Thorburn family were tight like we were one family. We always hung out at each others house and went to the same church, school and clubs. The youngest member of the family was Blair. I was the youngest in my family and always wanted a sibling so Blair became my little brother. We hung out all the time. After university Blair moved to London England. Blair sent me this fantastic postcard of the royals. I like it very much not as much as I like Blair though xox lol.

Post Card Friendship Friday - From a New Friend

"Deal Castle, completed in 1540, was one of a series of fortresses built to defend vulnerable landing places on the south coast from an expected invasion.  Unlike medieval castles, these were specifically designed to resist and be defended by guns, firing from embrasures in the walls and parapets of the low, rounded towers or 'bastions'.  The castle is seen here from the north, showing the inner and the the outer ring of bastions with the 'keep' at the centre, much as it looked in the 16th century."

Thank-you to Sheila, from A Postcard a Day,  for this wonderful postcard.  Sheila was the winner of the Year of the Rabbit postcard contest held earlier this year.

Did you enter our current contest?  My sister Nancy has offered to send a postcard featuring an inukshuk to one lucky reader.  Visit this post and leave a comment to be entered.  Don't forget to leave a comment for PFF as well.

Post Cards My Sister Sent - My Running Hero

Terry Fox is one of the most known and beloved of all Canadians.  In 1981 he started his cross country.  For 143 days he ran a marathon, that's 26 miles a day for 3, 339 miles until he was too sick to continue.  His cancer , which earlier had claimed his right leg, was back.  This monument in Thunder Bay, Ontario marks the location where Terry stopped running.

I remember watching the news for updates on his progress and being devastated when he had to stop.  even though he had to stop, his memory remains.  Every September, thousands of Canadians lace on their shoes and run.  To date, runners around the world have raised $550 million for cancer research.

Be sure to visit yesterday's post by Nancy to comment for a chance to be mailed the Inukshuk postcard.

Win this postcard

This is a postcard of an inuksuk which is a stone landmark used by the peoples in the arctic regions of North America.

You may have seen a similar statue recently used as the symbol for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

If you would like this postcard please comment and tell me why. Next Monday I will choose a winner from the entries and sent this in the mail.

I just received this lovely postcard from Panama in the mail. My best friend Renee is traveling with her husband through central America and now South America. When she saw this postcard she knew she had to send it to me. All the girls in our family are sewers. Our mom taught us at a young age how to make our own clothes. You may have seen the fabric postcards that my mom sends to me and my sister that we have posted.

Looks very nice to be sitting outside in the Sunshine sewing an outfit. Though for this lady she probably does it to support her family not just for pleasure as I do.

Mont Rushmore USA

Just yesterday I received this postcard at work from a friend. Her and her husband went to Mont Rushmore during the Easter weekend.
The postcard must have had a rough voyage to Canada because has marks all over, adds to it's character I think.
I have always wanted to go to see this famous Mountain in South Dakota USA and may just go this year.
Thanks Ruth for adding to the collection on the wall of my office.

Keeping Poultry

My friend Janet started out with just one coop and a few Burmese Jungle Fowl.  Over the past years, things have kind of gotten out of hand.  She has a number of chicken coops as well as the barn.  Chickens, geese, ducks and turkey roaming all over.  The most amusing are the Runner ducks.  Absolutely hilarious how they herd around together.

Her daughter keeps an occasional blog with stories about the adventures of the humans and the animals: Stone Meadow Farm.

Who else could I send this postcard to.

I'm slowly working my way down through the box. It will be fun choosing a recipient for each card.

Sending those Penguins Home

This one is going in the mail today to my friend Linda in New Zealand.  It's the only place I have been where there are penguins living in the wild.  I didn't get to see them that way, though I did visit Kelly Tarlton's Arctic Encounter when I was there last visit.  Great displays and yes, I did get to see some penguins up close.

Columbia Icefield

The Columbia Icefield is located in the Canadian Rockies, astride the Continental Divide of North America. The icefield lies partly in the northwestern tip of Banff and the southern end of Jasper National Park. It is about 325 km² in area, 100 to 365 metres (328 to 1,197 ft) in depth and receives up to seven metres (275 in) of snowfall per year. The icefield feeds 8 major glaciers.

A very good friend of mine worked there until this past winter when she left to go back to school. She started there driving the big ice mover buses http://www.explorerockies.com/columbia-icefield/ and then moved on up to management. I thought she might be missing it since it would be time to go back to the glacier for the 2011 season, so i just sent her this postcard.

If you ever get to Alberta it is an amazing experience to take the bus on the the ice. Then you get to walk around the ice and if you have enough energy you can hike up from the bottom and see the end of the glacier.
